Our Eco Policy
Rainbow Eco Products are committed to creating a cleaner, greener planet by minimising our impact on the environment without affecting the quality of our products. We strive to use safe environmental best practices in all we do, and we are proud to be the market leaders in specialist eco-friendly sand products in the UK.
Packaging – Minimising our environmental footprint through recycling
All our boxes are made from 100% recycled board, and are easily recycled from home nationwide.
We use padded card envelopes instead of plastic bubble wrap packaging, and where possible, paper packing tape, all of which can be popped into your weekly recycle bins. We also use 100% recyclable post bags made from potato starch.
The bags and pouches we use are made from a high percentage of mixed recycled plastic and are fully recyclable at your local recycling centre or bag recycling point at your local supermarket.
We are always reviewing our plastic packaging for new alternatives. The durability of bags is not yet reflected in a fully recycled option so finding an eco-friendly alternative is a challenge which we are hoping to find a solution to in the near future.
The tubs we use are made by an environmentally responsible manufacturer, are a high percentage of recycled plastic, and when they have finally out-lived their usefulness, they can be recycled with kerb-side recycling collections and all local recycling sites.
We also work with a local waste management company who take our waste wood, plastic and board to their recycling plant down the road, but the majority of our waste cardboard is re-used for packing.
UK Manufactured -
Working hard to reduce our environmental impact locally
Rainbow Eco Products are based on a farm on the top of the beautiful Mendip Hills in Somerset, 800m above sea level, and we are proud to make approximately 95% of our products right here in our own factory.
Our products are accredited with BS71 (parts 1, 2 and 3) for safety, and we have implemented guidelines and working practices of ISO 9001 Quality Management Systems and ISO14001 Environmental Management System and are working towards full accreditation.
The raw materials we use in our products come from environmentally sustainable sources.
The ‘glitter’ we use in our Sparkle Sands is a natural quartz extract and doesn’t contain any micro-plastics that are harmful to the environment and is fully bio-degradable.
The coatings we use in colouring our products are all water-based non-toxic formulas and certified environmentally safe.
Wherever possible we use local hauliers to minimise carbon emissions and schedule the lorries to run on full loads so their journeys are never wasted.
In the factory we encourage the ‘Reduce, Re-use, Recycle’ ideology, and train and educate our employees to work in a responsible manner having introduced a waste management system in the factory with dedicated recycling areas.
We promote efficient use of materials and resources at our facility, including water, electricity and other resources, particularly those that are non-renewable, and purchase and use environmentally responsible products wherever possible. We are striving to become as self-sufficient as possible; we even have our own water source from a spring 80m beneath our feet.
Projects moving forward –
We’re working on it
Rainbow Eco Products are actively looking into installing a wind turbine to power our facility, and thereby utilising the strong wind we often have on top of our hill. It’s a big project for a small company and we will look forward to letting you know when plans are afoot.
